Confidence in Leadership: Resilience

We used to talk about ‘bouncing back’ when we talked about resiliency.  However, leadership is all about moving forward.  Moving forward when things have been difficult.  Moving forward even when we have incredible uncertainty about what is to come.  Join us for our final episode and explore how your ability to adapt to challenging circumstances will serve you as a ‘Confident Leader’!

[Alicia Davis] Hello, I’m Alicia Davis.

[Stacie Watson] And I’m Stacie Watson.

[Alicia Davis] We are the founders and co-owners of Transformative Leadership Strategies, a coaching, training, and team-building company. And we want to thank you for downloading our guide of Skyrocketing Your Confidence as a Leader. And we put this guide together because it is such a big and important topic for leaders that, you know, we talk about confidence in all of our leadership programs. And it’s a really big deal, isn’t it, Stacie?

[Stacie Watson] Well, it is. And of course, the reason is because it’s such a big idea and concept. And it’s complicated because it doesn’t look the same between leaders or between individuals. And it doesn’t even necessarily show up the same for you as a person from situation to situation. So confidence is complicated. And one of the things we wanted to do was to take this really big idea and to break it into parts so that we could begin to understand, well, what are some of the factors that go into being confident? And what are some of the specific ways we might be able to shift when we’re feeling less confident and feeling more confident? And that’s really the backbone and purpose of the guide we created.

[Alicia Davis] That’s right. And so the confidence wheel is in your guide. And the factor that we’re focusing on today is resiliency, and the ability to adapt. And I don’t know about you Stacie, but human beings, it doesn’t matter, like, we have to be resilient and adapt all the time, right, whether we’re leaders or just in life. And so this is really important in terms of how do we recover from challenging times? How do we adapt? And maybe even, not just how do we keep on going, but how do we even learn from it? Right?

[Stacie Watson] Yes, I think this is such an important quality in leadership to begin with because many of our leaders and I’ve coached with so many leaders have expressed challenges when things didn’t go the way that they planned. You know, all the best-laid plans, all of the, you know, projections, all of the estimations, and then something goes awry. And so how do we as leaders sort of stop and notice that this is not what we thought was going to happen? And then how do we pivot? Or how do we shift? Or what do we do in order to sort of continue moving forward? And if it means that the organization or my team or myself as a leader needs to change or adapt in order to accommodate this new reality, how do we do that? And confidence is a really big part of that. And I think it’s something that we can really notice how comfortable or not we are in those moments. And that can be really informative and interesting as we think about growing our leadership skills.

[Alicia Davis] That’s right. And so as you consider this key factor for yourself, how resilient you feel, or how able you are to adapt in different situations, you know, that one to 10 scale? One is, yeah, I don’t do it so great. And 10 is, you know what, for the most part, I feel like I can do that. And wherever you are on that scale, really, first of all, recognizing and acknowledging the success and the way that you do it. And then perhaps noticing, you know, if you notice, I’m a little resistant or you notice, you know, I get kind of down on myself when I’m not able to adapt as quickly, or maybe you notice that you’re just feeling inflexible. That’s another way to notice, right? So just whatever you notice, see if you can allow yourself or just jot it down, you know like I can I just take a step back, and can I just learn from this situation? What can I learn from this, right? And so whatever it is, maybe one small action, you can record that down in at the end of your guide, and we would love to know anything, any insights that come from looking at this part of your confidence wheel. So email us at info@tlstransforms.com. And we hope to hear from you soon.

[Stacie Watson] Thank you.
