Leadership 101

As leaders, we often have a sense of what we’re supposed to be doing, but helping to ensure that the people on our team are clear about that, and that we’re all in alignment – that can be very tricky, especially for newer leaders. Join us as we introduce Leadership 101 – an opportunity to reflect on yourself as a leader.

[Alicia Davis] So you know that as new leaders, sometimes they’re challenged by being able to really understand how to establish a direction with the team. Right, Stacie?

[Stacie Watson] Absolutely. Yeah, I just facilitated a session with some leaders, and we were talking about this exact topic. And it was really interesting because I think, you know, a lot of times, we as leaders have a sense of kind of what we’re supposed to be doing, but helping to ensure that the people on our team are clear about that, and that we’re all in alignment around that. That can be very tricky, I think, especially for newer leaders.

[Alicia Davis] Yeah, for sure. And, you know, there’s a lot that goes into being able to, you know, get everybody on the same page, and you know, it’s like that balance of how much am I doing myself? Right?

[Stacie Watson] Right.

[Alicia Davis] As a leader, how much maybe can I, you know, support others to be able to understand what they need to be doing and maybe even delegate, right? So part of this whole way that we establish direction, as new leaders, sometimes takes some reflection, right? It sometimes takes a little bit of time to be able to understand, well, what’s important to me, what are my values? Like how do I communicate, you know, our organization’s direction and values? And so that’s part of what we do in our leadership one-on-one session, isn’t it?

[Stacie Watson] It is, I think, you know, we created a leadership assessment a few years ago because we wanted to really hone in on some of these really practical skills that are important for leaders and things that we might not normally have an opportunity to really develop in ourselves when we’re sort of independent contributors. So I think this whole idea of leadership 101 is just to give everyone an opportunity to do some reflecting about themselves as a leader. What are my strengths? Where might I have an opportunity to grow? Right?

[Alicia Davis] That’s right. That’s right. And in our new Learning Academy, we’ve got Leadership 101 coming up as one of our sessions on May 15. So we’d love to have you check it out. If that’s something that you have a need for, for your new leaders. Go to Academy.TLStransforms.com. And you can also email us info@transforms.com. I’m Alicia Davis.

[Stacie Watson] I’m Stacie Watson.

[Alicia Davis] And we are the founders and co-owners of Transformative Leadership Strategies. So, thanks so much.

[Stacie Watson] Thank you.
