Leadership Resilience

When things are ‘crazy’ at work, it’s easy to forget the impact that the ‘craziness’ may have on you and your team. This week we’re inviting you to reflect on the idea of resilience and how to build more of it – for yourself and your team. Join us to hear more!

Leadership Resilience

Alicia Davis
Stacie, this “Elevating Skills of Experienced Leaders” – we are loving this program, and we are facilitating it all over the place, it seems. And we wanted to share another topic that you literally just facilitated yesterday, don’t we?

Stacie Watson
Yeah, you know, I think in a previous video, we talked about navigating change, and following that topic in the program is kind of a focus on leadership resilience. And it really struck me as I was talking with these leaders yesterday about this, how naturally that flows, right? Because when we are experiencing just incessant – and these leaders were really talking about the incessant change that they’re experiencing within their organization – there’s so much uncertainty, you know, we’re on, we’re off, etc, etc. So it was really helpful, I think, to spend some time focusing on, you know, first, what can we do for ourselves as leaders to sort of help our own ability to remain resilient in the face of all of that kind of topsy-turvy-ness? And then we also spent some time talking about, you know, how do we support our team and the team’s ability to be resilient, right?

Alicia Davis
Right? And that individual part, right, we have to start with ourselves, right, ourselves as leaders, as managers. And I think the first thing that we talk about in change is anxiety, right?

Stacie Watson
Right?

Alicia Davis
People get frustrated, upset, and so I think the first thing for leaders is for us to be able to manage our own reactions, regulate our emotions, right? Stay steady…

Stacie Watson
Yes.

Alicia Davis
Right? And then also, I think it’s helpful to remember our purpose. What am I doing individually? What are we doing as a team? And then we have to shift and change how we make decisions, like we have to be adaptive, right? We have to adapt to different situations. So I think, you know, those are the kind of the three main areas we talk about for internal, and then I know you had some, some great insights from the conversation about, how do we support our teams as well to be resilient?

Stacie Watson
Yeah, you know, it was a really dynamic conversation, and we really focus in that piece of the curriculum on the importance of focusing on empathy and vision for the team, right? So how do we stay connected with each other, kind of in meaningful ways? And one of the leaders in the room said, you know, sometimes I think I sort of imagine that I know what the team is experiencing, or sort of assume that I know. And she said, I think it’s actually this is reminding me that it might be helpful to actually ask, because not everyone might be experiencing the change in the same way. And I thought that was a really powerful takeaway. And then, of course, also helping the team remember kind of the purpose, what we’re here for. As my grandmother used to say, “This too shall pass,” which is always true. It was a dynamic and engaging conversation about the importance of resilience, and as leaders, we need it.

Alicia Davis
We sure do, and we would love to hear you know what it is that you do for yourself and or with your team, so you can always email us info@TLStransforms.com, and if you feel like you need some support as a leader with your team, we’re also here to help with that. So I’m Alicia Davis…

Stacie Watson

Alicia Davis

Stacie Watson
Thank you.
