Supporting alignment around strategic planning and priorities.

Strategic planning processes allow organizations the time to assess their current state, identify trends, issues, and opportunities, as well as establish key priorities. Leveraging decades of strategic planning experience within, and in support of, organizations, we bring a coach-approach to our consultative strategic planning process. This means that we:

  • Work with leaders to ensure input from all levels of the organization as well as key external stakeholders
  • Ask relevant questions that drive deep internal inquiry into what’s working and where new opportunities may lay
  • Use data generated throughout the process to work with organizational leadership to define clear direction and priorities for the growth and evolution of the organization

Our strategic planning process:

  • Identifies what’s working well from a program and process perspective
  • Determines what opportunities (new programs, markets, etc.) might become strategic initiatives
  • Ensures that all strategic initiatives are aligned with organizational mission, vision, and values
  • Results in detailed action plans which include goals, objectives, and key performance indicators

The strategic planning process typically takes between three and nine months, depending on the size of the organization and the number of stakeholders involved. Scenario Planning / Risk Mapping Sessions

Many nonprofit leaders feel they are currently facing the most challenging time for their organization since the pandemic. They are attempting to:

  • Make decisions with imperfect information and have a sense that the ‘goal line’ is moving
  • Establish budgets amidst increasing uncertainty regarding funding sources
  • Ensure programs are meeting needs, even as those needs are changing
  • Support staff and leaders as everyone navigates ongoing change and uncertainty

This moment requires leaders to plan for multiple possible scenarios while remaining true to the mission. Our sessions offer a structured approach for cutting through some of the noise of uncertainty to allow the team to focus on what is known, where control does lie, and to identify risks that may arise. Once identified, the team works together to consider options for mitigating, or even capitalizing, on these risks.

These sessions are generally held in half-day time frames and are designed to stimulate whole-brain thinking with a goal of creating action plans that are timely and effective. Contact us if you believe your leadership team would benefit from a focused session on navigating in this time of uncertainty.
