Stacie, it’s conference season for us…
Stacie Watson
Indeed!
Alicia Davis
… and so fascinating that we keep getting asked to talk about addressing compassion fatigue and burnout, right? And we wanted to just share that, you know, this is a well-being practice. It’s for yourself, it’s for your teams. And I don’t think we can talk about it enough, right?
Stacie Watson
Well, it certainly seems like there’s a lot of interest and energy around the topic. Thus, the invitation to bring it to conferences. And I had the opportunity to speak at a conference a few weeks ago now, and the topic that they had selected was this topic. And what was so interesting to me, it was a dynamic session, you know, sometimes they just are a bit magical. And it was one of those kind of magical sessions, and at the end, I had a woman come up to me and she basically said, you know, my organization that was sponsoring the conference always brings in great speakers, and we have great topics, and I learn a lot about the work that I do, and some regulatory requirement changes those types of things. And she said, we just don’t always spend a lot of time talking about this kind of topic. And she said, and it’s so important because the work we do is really hard sometimes, and it can be very draining, and it’s really nice to feel normalized. You know, that it makes sense that I might feel exhausted, or I might feel a bit of overwhelm, or I might feel like my empathy is less than normal. You know, all of those things make sense in the context of the work that I do. And so she was not only appreciative for herself, having the conversation and being part of the session, but also appreciative of the association for having the insight to bring the topic in. And it really struck me that you know this topic, while we talk a lot about how we want to think about it individually. What can I do to support myself? There’s probably also an interesting conversation about how organizations can focus on this topic, and maybe new or different ways?
Alicia Davis
Yeah, and that’s something that’s really been striking both of us in talking with our executive directors and leaders and you know, I think that what you shared, I think was so inspiring to the folks that were there, as well as to the sponsor, that they actually wrote an article, right, about it that we wanted to share here because it was, we just thought it was a such a well written article, and it actually gives some of the real, specific, applicable things that we can do for ourselves, that we can offer to our teams, that we can facilitate with them, even in what we call those micro moments of time, right? Doesn’t have to be huge. And we are also doing some research on how we can have this more comprehensive conversation about what we can do within our organization, within our culture, in terms of shifting some of that impact of the work that we do. So more to come on that, and yet, right, we got lots of resources here addressing compassion fatigue and burnout. And the link to that article is here in the newsletter, and so we just wanted to, we wanted to share it with you, and just hope that it’s a resource for you.
Stacie Watson
Absolutely. So feel free, you know, enjoy the article, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on what resonates for you, what pieces you think might resonate for your team, and we’ll keep you posted on the new material as it gets developed.
Stacie Watson
That’s right. So I’m Alicia Davis…

Stacie Watson
Thank you.
