So, Stacie, you know, change is the only thing that is constant, right? And we know that there are levels of change that are going on inside and outside of our nonprofit organizations, and they are getting pretty exhausted, tapped out. And we really, you know, we just have so much empathy and compassion for that, and we want to talk about that, because it is real, and we want to help do something,
Stacie Watson
Yeah, well, it is something that comes up all the time, I think, when we’re talking with leaders and members of teams, and you’re right, I think the constancy of change can be exhausting. And you know, one of the things we know about navigating change is that what can be helpful is our ability to be resilient, right? We face the change, we work through whatever that might be, and we sort of show up to do the good work another day. And when that capacity starts to go down, it makes it difficult to do anything or to feel like we’re doing things to the best of our ability. And we actually are going to be bringing a training session to, you know, our community coming up over the next few weeks about this whole topic, right?
Alicia Davis
Yeah, I mean, Navigating Change and Building Resilience. We’re doing it on May 21 with The Connection. And you know, it’s when we’re in that session, we do talk about the reality of the impact of layered change that’s constant, and how do we make decisions, and how do we keep our mental and emotional capacity? I mean, that’s part of what it really is about. Like, resilience is about how we, you know, we get drained, and then we refuel. We get drained, and then we refuel. Right? It’s like, how do we keep having as much capacity as possible? And some days, that’s it’s enough to get through. And some days maybe it’s a little bit more. And no matter what, it’s about being very intentional about, okay, what can I do for myself? What can I do with my team that can really help to reset me?
Stacie Watson
Yeah, one of the things we talk about, which I think is worth mentioning, is just the idea of permanence. You know, because we are in this state of constant change, and we face very difficult moments, very difficult changes. I think sometimes it can feel like it will be like this forever. And when we can zoom out and look kind of historically, we know that these difficult moments come and go, and we know intellectually that that is true. It’s just when we’re in the moment, we might forget. So it can be helpful to just, you know, my grandmother used to say, “This too shall pass.” And I think being able to sort of harken back to that idea might be helpful in those moments where it all feels overwhelming,
Alicia Davis
Yeah, and I think this, the one other thing is to, you know, be as kind to ourselves and others as possible, like, especially to ourselves, right? Like, this stuff is hard… It’s just hard. And, you know, the gentler that we can be on ourselves, the better. So…
Stacie Watson
For sure.
Alicia Davis
